Déscription du carreau Tile the Umbrella

The Umbrella is part of the SU.Real collection, designed by Marta Pignol for Carocim®, from the "Symbols" picture book.

A favorite object of Surrealism, the umbrella symbolizes poetic absurdity, the protection of the unconscious, and unexpected encounters. It embodies the strangeness of everyday life and the magic of free association.

Each tile is handcrafted using a demanding artisanal method. Composed of cement, sand, marble powder, and natural pigments, it is made without firing, using minimal water. Its texture and any slight irregularities reveal the artisan's touch and enhance its uniqueness.

FAQ

Vos questions fréquentes

Does Carreau le Parapluie fade in the sun?

This Carocim cement tile receives the systematic anti-UV treatment applied to every reference rated for outdoor use, and the Parapluie is one of them. The light blue, beige and black pigments of the motif keep their intensity under repeated sun exposure, with no premature fading seen under normal outdoor conditions.

Which sealer product should be used on Carreau le Parapluie?

At 16 mm thick, the natural porosity typical of cement tile is why the Parapluie needs a water- and oil-repellent sealer applied after laying. Skip this step and the surface stays vulnerable to stains and moisture absorption, which can dull the light blue, beige and black tones of the Carocim motif over time.

How does the collection of Carreau le Parapluie stand out from the others?

The Parapluie belongs to Marta Pignol's SU.Real collection for Carocim, a Pop and Surrealist line built on unexpected figurative motifs rather than the classic geometric repertoire of cement tile. Carocim doesn't list a dedicated lookbook for the range, but this minimalist, stylised umbrella captures SU.Real's light, poetic identity well.

Is the fine surface crazing on Carreau le Parapluie normal?

Yes, small surface variations are normal on a handmade cement tile like the Parapluie: they come from Carocim's natural curing and traditional hand-pressing process. Once several tiles are laid together, these subtle differences blend into the overall floor and don't affect the strength or colour retention of the light blue, beige and black motif.

Is the pattern of Carreau le Parapluie printed on or set into the body of the tile?

The Parapluie's motif is set into the body of the cement tile, using Carocim's traditional technique where pigments are poured into a mould before pressing rather than printed on the surface. This stylised, minimalist umbrella in light blue, beige and black owes its contemporary feel to that clean, graphic simplicity rather than any ornate detailing.
