Aurélia Paoli x Carocim: When Drawing Becomes Matter
The collaboration between Maison Carocim and Aurélia Paoli is the meeting of two surface experts. On one side, the historic manufacturer of cement tiles; on the other, a 2D designer passionate about enhancing materials. Together, we explore how design, even before taking shape, can transform space. Founder of Beauregard Studio, Aurélia Paoli led her company for many years before dedicating herself fully to her artistic practice. Today, Carocim has the honor of producing the renowned Beauregard collections, thus perpetuating a unique vision of decorative pattern.
It all starts with the drawing.
For Aurélia Paoli, "everything is drawing before it takes shape." An artist at heart, she sees the flat surface not as a limit, but as an infinite territory of expression. Her specialty? Embellishment. Whether it's textiles, wallpaper, or cement tiles, she always seeks to elevate the material through graphic design. Her eye, trained in Applied Arts, discerns ornamental potential in everyday forms. She draws on cultural heritage, ancestral techniques, and technological advancements to create a visual vocabulary resolutely focused on the future.
Beauregard Studio: An aesthetic adventure
For over ten years, Aurélia Paoli led Beauregard Studio, a design house that became a benchmark in wall and floor coverings. There, she developed a distinctive signature style: kinetic lines, optical illusions, and a bold use of color. It is this creative richness that Carocim now publishes. By transposing Beauregard patterns into the mineral material of cement, we give them a new dimension—tactile and enduring. The pattern is no longer simply printed; it is embedded, alive.
Between Tradition and Innovation
Aurélia Paoli lives in the present, but her roots run deep. She enjoys creating a dialogue between different eras. Her designs for Carocim are imbued with classical references—stained glass, marquetry, antique paving—but treated with a radical modernity. She uses the technical constraints of our artisanal production (metal cloisonné) to structure her designs. The metal lines become an integral part of the graphic, emphasizing the geometry and rigor of the composition.
An Artist Designer at Carocim
Now free from business management to dedicate herself to design, Aurélia Paoli continues to enrich the Carocim catalog. Her presence alongside us testifies to our desire to be much more than a manufacturer: a true design publisher.
