Carocim x Studio BrichetZiegler: The Poetic Industry of the Cement Tile
The collaboration between Maison Carocim and Studio BrichetZiegler stems from a shared curiosity about materials and their transformation. It represents the meeting of centuries-old artisanal expertise and a contemporary, technical, and poetic vision of design. Since 2010, Caroline Ziegler and Pierre Brichet have formed a creative duo that breaks down the boundaries of design. Their approach, at the crossroads of industry and craftsmanship, found in our workshop an ideal testing ground for reinventing the cement tile.
A Duo of Designers with a Cross-Cutting Vision
Caroline Ziegler and Pierre Brichet are not your average designers. They champion a holistic vision, where the object is born first and foremost from a dialogue with the material. Their signature lies in their ability to reveal the beauty of a technique, whether industrial or handcrafted. Graphic, expressive, and generous, their objects always tell a story of their creation. This exacting approach has led them to collaborate with leading furniture manufacturers (Petite Friture, Moustache, Habitat) and to be awarded the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris in 2017.
From the Savoyard Workshop to the Carocim Workshop
The DNA of Studio BrichetZiegler is "making." In their workshop in Haute-Savoie, a true laboratory for experimentation, they explore forms and techniques, even self-publishing their "By Hands" collection. It's this "maker" spirit that captivated us. For Carocim, they approached the cement tile not as a flat surface to be decorated, but as a volume, a mineral material to be sculpted through drawing. They sought to translate the vibration of the hand and the imperfect perfection of craftsmanship into strong graphic motifs.
A Graphic and Expressive Writing Style
The result of this collaboration is a series of patterns that play with perception. BrichetZiegler uses geometry to create movement, depth, and rhythm. Their designs for Carocim reflect their furniture: structured but never rigid. They exploit the technical constraints of our manufacturing process (cloisonné) to create an aesthetic strength. The lines are clean, the blocks of color are bold, but the overall effect is one of unique softness and poetry.
Contemporary Design Enters the Museum
Caroline and Pierre's work is regularly recognized by cultural institutions, and their pieces are included in the collections of the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP) and the Mobilier National. By choosing a Studio BrichetZiegler design for your home, you are opting for a thoughtful, enduring, and distinctive piece. It's the assurance of adding a striking element to your décor, one that reflects the vitality of French design and its ability to engage with traditional craftsmanship.
