The Eye is part of the SU.Real collection, designed by Marta Pignol for Carocim®, from the "Symbols" picture book.

In Surrealism, the eye is a powerful symbol of perception, revelation, and inner truth. It embodies the gaze of the unconscious, the vision beyond reality, and the power of the imagination.

Each tile is handcrafted using a demanding artisanal method. Composed of cement, sand, marble powder, and natural pigments, it is made without firing, using minimal water. Its texture and any slight irregularities reveal the artisan's touch and enhance its uniqueness.

Is the Carreau L’Oeil tile suitable for a bedroom?

Stair risers are actually one of its favourite stages: each 20 x 20 cm cement tile displays a complete stylised eye, turning a staircase into a striking gallery. For the treads themselves, prefer a hard-wearing surface and ask Carocim about the right protective sealer and non-slip precautions; the beige, blue and yellow motif will do the rest.

Why does Carreau L’Oeil need to be waterproofed before use?

Two thin coats of hydro-oil-repellent sealer stand between kitchen life and stains: the oil-repellent component repels grease and splashes, giving you time to wipe them before they penetrate the cement tile. Renew the treatment periodically, as Carocim advises, and L'Oeil will stay unblemished behind a hob or worktop.

Does the beige colourway of Carreau L’Oeil go with light wood?

Colour adaptation is part of the workshop's craft: since every L'Oeil is cast by hand, Carocim can study a custom version of the eye motif in shades drawn from its U colour chart. Feasibility, price and lead time are confirmed on request. The standard beige, blue and yellow cement tile remains available immediately.

Why choose the pattern of Carreau L’Oeil rather than a plain tile?

No, it does not play in the same register: andalusian tradition weaves abstract, repeating arabesques, while L'Oeil asserts a single figurative icon — a stylised eye ringed with rays. Created by Marta Pignol for Carocim's SU.Real collection, this cement tile is a piece of pop-surrealist storytelling rather than an ornamental heritage quotation.

Is the pattern of Carreau L’Oeil likely to fade in the sun?

Worry is unnecessary here: Carocim systematically applies an anti-UV treatment to the cement tiles it produces for outdoor settings, and L'Oeil is among them. Beige, blue and yellow pigments are defended against fading, so the radiant eye keeps watching undimmed. Simply maintain the water-repellent sealer against rain, frost and pool splashes.
